The Interface You Were Born With - Input Origins #12

Before keyboards, mice, touchscreens, and game controllers, humans already had a remarkably capable interface: your hand.

Millions of years of evolution shaped the hand for gripping, feeling, moving, gesturing, and creating. Its combination of muscles, bones, nerves, and fine motor control made it the natural foundation for nearly every tool and input device that followed.

Over time, interfaces were designed around the hand. Keyboards matched our fingers, mice fit beneath the palm, and controllers translated physical movements into digital commands.

From there, the story moves toward reading the neural signals that guide the hand itself. It is a short look at how interaction may move beyond tools and buttons, turning the hand back into the controller it has always been.

Welcome back to Input Origins, our monthly look at how humans control technology.

A short look at the input device that added the missing dimension to digital control.

Input Origins is published on the last Thursday of every month.

ABOUT US

Wearable Devices Ltd. develops a non-invasive Neural input interface for controlling digital devices using subtle finger movements.

We believe that neural-based interfaces will become as ubiquitous as wearable computing and digital devices in general, just as the touchscreen became the universal input method for smartphones.
